About the Author
Federico García Lorca (1898-1936) was a Spanish poet, playwright, and theater director. He is considered one of the most important figures of the 20th-century avant-garde. Lorca was born in Granada, Spain, and studied law at the University of Granada. He began writing poetry in his early teens, and his first book of poems, Libro de poemas, was published in 1921.
In 1929, Lorca traveled to New York City, where he was immediately struck by the city's frenetic pace and relentless energy. He spent the next year living in New York, and this experience had a profound impact on his work. Lorca's poems from this period are some of his most powerful and moving, and they offer a unique perspective on one of the world's most iconic cities.
Lorca returned to Spain in 1930, and he continued to write poetry, plays, and theater until his death in 1936. Lorca was assassinated by Nationalist forces during the Spanish Civil War. He was 38 years old.
